HELP! I need to analyze a Poem "Sympathy"?
30.October, 2009
Sympathy
by Paul Laurence Dunbar
I know what the caged bird feels, alas!
When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;
When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,
And the river flows like a stream of glass;
When the first bird sings and the first bud opens,
And the faint perfume from its chalice steals–
I know what the caged bird feels!
I know why the caged bird beats its wing
Till its blood is red on the cruel bars;
For he must fly back to his perch and cling
When he fain would be on the bough a-swing;
And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars
And they pulse again with a keener sting–
I know why he beats his wing!
I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,–
When he beats his bars and he would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart’s deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings–
I know why the Caged Bird Sings!
I believe its about freedom?
I did analyze the poem, I just want some insite on it, and what other people think of the poem. I personally believe the caged bird is humanities outcry of survival and equlity, and the cage is opression, while the branch is home, but thats just me. =d
if you need to analyze it the best start might be to start to analyze it, don’t you think?
What book should I read next? I love Tess Gerritsen books, Joy Fielding book, Jodi Picoult books, and so on.?

Please don’t recommend twiglight series… I’ve already read them and wasn’t as crazy about them as eveyone else appears to be… Sorry and thanks!
I read all mentioned by you authors. I like particularly Joy Fielding ( I like the ones with all sorts of twists and turns like Whispers and Lies, the Puppet or Don’t Cry Now).
I like also Linda Howard, Julie Garwood, Karen Robards, Janet Evanovich.

I have a magazine, how do I get advertisers and/or sponsors for my new christian magazine?

My magazine is called JOY. Jesus first, Other second and Yourself last!
What are your advertising rates? I am a distributor for Mia Bella Soy Candles and would be interested in advertising in a Christian magazine.
Thanks
Lisa
Question for the Christian woman out here?
28.October, 2009
Does the idea of submitting to a man bring you so much pleasure, you can barely stand up or breathe?
So much joy, that you feel like you are not even on earth anymore?
That is HOW BADLY I want a husband.
a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle…
Is Joy Division a band worth downloading on my ipod?
28.October, 2009
Have heard some stuff. Other than "Love will Tear Us Apart", any other Joy Division songs worth downloading on the ipod? Are they good?
Yeah. Both of their studio albums (Unknown Pleasures and Closer) are classics. Check out some of these.

Anyone pretty Familiar with Poets??
24.October, 2009
Yes, I have sadly yet inevitably procrastinated on my summer Literature homework. But I’m not going to blow it off- I just need help selecting a poetry book. For those who are familiar with a lot of poets, which one out of this list typically has shorter, easier to understand poetry? If there’s a good book of theirs you have in mind (has to be on the shorter side though), I would love any suggestions!
Maya Angelou
William Blake
Emily Dickinson
Robert Frost
Pat Mora
Naomi Shihab Nye
Anne Sexton
W.H. Auden
Gwendolyn Brooks
John Donne
Louise Glick
Toni Morrison
Octavio Paz
Kevin Stein
Jimmy Santiago Baca
ee cummings
T.S. Eliot
Joy Harjo
Pablo Neruda
Adrienne Rich
Walt Whitman
Pablo Neurda is AMAZING! His poems aren’t very long, but they are pretty complicated. You should try Macnolia (name of the collection) by A. Van Jordan. He is really great, and the book is kind of narrative, so every poem is related and tell the story of this woman’s life. It’s great. I highly recommend it. Good luck:)
